introduction | lithium benzoate is white crystal or powder, hygroscopic. When heated, it becomes a liquid crystal. In an aqueous solution, it does not decompose when heated to a high temperature. The aqueous solution is slightly alkaline with a pH of about 8. Its hemihydrate is colorless crystal. Monohydrate is a colorless crystal, which shows lavender fluorescence and slowly decomposes when illuminated at a wavelength of 3.65 × 10-7m. Its acid salt is a colorless leaf-like crystal. It can be prepared by dissolving lithium carbonate in an aqueous solution of benzoic acid and used as a lubricant when tableting. |
application | lithium benzoate is an excellent food preservative, which has the dual functions of benzoic acid and elemental lithium, and can be used for antiseptic and sterilization of synthetic cream, fruit juice, soda and beverages with good effect. benzoic acid is a pharmaceutical intermediate and fine chemical intermediate with remarkable physiological and chemical activities. It has a significant resistance to bacteria, can be used as a disinfectant preservative, used to prevent and treat skin fungal infections, such as tinea corporis, tinea manus and tinea pedis, can also be used as food and medicine preservatives. |
Preparation | Using benzoic acid and lithium hydroxide as reactants, lithium benzoate was synthesized: benzoic acid and lithium hydroxide monohydrate were weighed in a molar ratio of 1:1. Put lithium hydroxide monohydrate into a large beaker, add a proper amount of deionized water, heat the solution to nearly boil to completely dissolve lithium hydroxide, then slowly add benzoic acid to the solution, reflux heating, keep the solution at 90 ℃, stir for 4 h, and make it fully react. Concentrate the clarified solution in an electric furnace until a crystalline film appears, and then naturally cool to room temperature, wait for a large amount of solid to be precipitated, filter, wash with anhydrous ethanol 3 times to obtain a white product, and then use an appropriate proportion of ethanol and water The mixed solution is recrystallized twice to obtain a white product. Place the sample in a vacuum drying oven, control the temperature to 50 ℃, and dry. Finally, put the sample in a dryer for later use. |
